Halloween is my husband’s absolute favorite holiday. I don’t have any children, but on Halloween night I have a man-child in my house who begs for warm caramel stuffed apples, eats candy while we greet trick-or-treaters, and watches nothing but Goosebumps and Are You Afraid for the Dark re-runs!

These caramel stuffed apples are also the perfect dessert for your fall get-together. I recommend serving them warm, right out of the oven, with vanilla ice cream!

Ingredients

Apples

Well, the recipe is for caramel stuffed apples! Of course you will need some fresh apples! I used honeycrisp apples today but I have made it with Granny Smith apples in the past. Not going to lie, I like the recipe with Granny Smith apples better. The honeycrisp apples are delicious, but Granny Smith add a great sourness with the sweet!

To prep the apples, you will need a small melon baller. Slice each apple in half and using the melon baller, scoop out the core and seeds making a well in the apple halves.

Soft Caramel Candies

I use Kraft Soft Caramel Candies for this recipe. You will need to unwrap about 18 of them for 3 apples. The ratio is 3 caramel candies per cored apple half.

Sugar

This recipe calls for two different types of sugar. You will use both brown sugar and granulated sugar.

Cinnamon

Ground cinnamon will be mixed with both types of sugar and sprinkled over the apples when baking.

Butter

Melted butter is painted on the flesh side of the prepared apples. It helps to hold the sugar and cinnamon mixture to the apples and makes for a great taste.

Pecans

Crushed pecans add a great taste and texture to this recipe. They are added to the apples at the same time as the caramel candies.

Chocolate chips or melting chocolate

Melted chocolate is used as a yummy and beautiful topping for these caramel stuffed apples. You can use white, dark or milk chocolate chips or melts. I use milk chocolate chips. They melt easily in the microwave with just a splash of canola oil. They will only need to heat for about 30-45 seconds. Stir them well to finish the melting process.

How to Make the Caramel Stuffed Apples

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

Mix the sugar, cinnamon, and a dash of sea salt together in a small mixing bowl.

Slice the apples in half and using a melon baller, scoop out the seeds and center of the apple.

Place the halved apples in an 11×7 baking dish (2 Quart) with the flesh side up.

Brush the flesh side of the apples with melted butter.

Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the apples.

Add ¼ cup of water to the bottom of the pan to help steam the apples while they cook.

Bake the apples for 15-20 minutes. Note that larger apples will take a little longer to cook.

While the apples cook, unwrap all the caramel candies.

Then, pull the apples out of the oven and add the caramel candies to the hole in the middle of the apples, 3 caramel candies per apple half.  Evenly sprinkle the crushed pecans, between the apples, on top of the caramels.

The stuffed apples are delicious topped with vanilla ice cream.
