Apple Chips, Savory, And Oh So Good

This will be my second time making these apple chips they are so easy and so tasty and you won’t feel guilty if you eat the whole batch! Trying to find healthy alternatives to our favorite snacks can sometimes be disheartening if we are all being honest. Im sure if you are like me we tried to make out favorite junk food into something healthy and it just doesn’t satisfy us or sometimes is just downright not good.

But with these apple chips, they are not trying to be something they are not. Plus, if you have a sweet tooth like me these will hit that craving! It’s almost like a light dessert honestly, the sweetness of the apple mixed with that woodsy spice of the cinnamon, who could resist.

Guilt-Free Snacking

As I am writing this post it is now the middle of June and I have been breaking out the summer clothes because here in the midwest we tend to get that beautiful humid heat that leaves you breathless the second you walk outside, wonderful, am I right. That being said, these apple chips are such a great mid-day snack, it is light, won’t have you feeling weighed down, and well, tasty. Plus you’re not adding any additional sugars into your diet, which is a great health benefit in multiple avenues.

This Apple Salads Best Features

Some of the amazing features of this recipe is everyone can enjoy it! These are a great vegan/vegetarian snack, they are gluten free, and a great way to get your kids eating more fruit. These are a hit at parties and perfect for binge watching that new Netflix show everyone has been talking about.

You could even crunch them up and add them to your salads for a new flavorful topping. Trust me, you will make these apple chips one time and you will make them again and again, they are definitely one of my go-to’s when I’m looking for a nice healthy snack. You also don’t need any kind of fancy kitchen tools such as a dehydrator to make these, you simply just need your oven, a good cookie sheet, and parchment paper or silicone baking sheet.

How To Make Apple Chips – Step By Step

  • Preheat your oven to 225 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Wash two apples, for the apples it is really whatever you personally like! I love honey crisp apples so I feel I am a bit biased by saying these are the best to use but, I do feel like they crips up the best. You could use any kind of apple though from granny smith to gala, or fuji, whatever you usually have in your pantry or on your kitchen counter would work great.
  • Core the Apples? You absolutely could core your apples but it is not necessary, after slicing my apples I just removed the seeds before I tossed them into my mixing bowl.
  • Slice your apples in very thin slices, you could use a mandolin slicer to get perfectly even slices or a sharp kitchen knife if you do not own a slicer. Just remember to try and keep very even slicing to keep your cooking times accurate and have all your apple slices crips up nicely.

  • Toss your sliced apples into a bowl then add in your cinnamon and give them a generous toss.
  • After having your apples coated in cinnamon add them to your baking sheet/cookie sheet.

  • Bake for one hour, turn them over, then continue baking for another hour.
  • You may need to bake them a little more or a little less depending on your oven, so I would suggest the first time making these to keep a little bit of an eye on them to make sure. You will see how they change in the oven and will notice if they are still not ready as they will still appear “plump”.
  • Once they are done baking let the apples cool completely on the baking/cookie sheet and store in an air-tight container for your healthy snacking pleasure!

Perfect Snack For All Seasons

Anyone can make these delicious apple chips, they are perfect all year long. You don’t need any special equipment and it takes no time at all to prepare. The longest part of this process is just getting the apple dehydrated in the oven, but if you have a day you will be home you pretty much just pop them in and forget them for an hour then flip them it is that easy.

It’s perfect all year long and is perfect for kid’s lunches as well. Kids will love this healthy snack because it’s crunchy just like their favorite chips. It would also be a great snack for long days at work or in the office for a pick me up. Spring, summer, fall, winter, you can make these apple chips whenever!
