Cherry Limeade, My New Go To Drink
In this recipe, I am using fresh cherries which just adds to the crisp freshness of this amazing drink. The great thing about this recipe is you could also add your favorite vodka or tequila to make this a great adult beverage!
In this particular recipe, I will do an alcohol-free version, that way everyone can enjoy this drink! But if your wanting to check out a more adult cherry beverage here’s an amazing recipe for a cherry vodka sour!
Can You Make This Cherry Limeade In A Large Batch For Parties?
This would be great as a batch-made drink for your dispensers and pitchers. Because you can store your simple syrup in your refrigerator for up to two weeks! This means you can do everything ahead of time, then, before the party or gathering begins you just would need to add your ice, lemon-lime soda, and garnishes.
Using a one-gallon glass dispenser would be perfect for this recipe and they are super easy to find in stores and online at places like amazon and add such a fun charm to parties!
Why Use Fresh Cherries?
One of the things I love about living somewhere where we experience all four seasons is the fact every new season that comes around brings a whole new world of fresh produce with it, so when that time comes around I would hate to miss it until next year!
That is why for this particular recipe I decided to make my own fresh cherry lime simple syrup. It is super easy to do as well and I am sure you have most of the ingredients at home in your pantry to do so. It is just a fresher alternative to using something store-bought, but, you could absolutely do that if it is easier for you. I will go more into detail further in this post.
How To Make Fresh Homemade Cherry Limeade – Step By Step
- The first thing we will do is wash our cherries very good then pit them. Pitting cherries is much easier if you have a cherry pitter, I, on the other hand, have been using my handy dandy strawberry huller for this process, because well, I haven’t gotten around to getting a pitter yet, but in due time.
- Once you have your cherries pitted go ahead and toss them into your blender and puree it very well so that there are no large chunky cherry pieces in the mixture. We are looking for a super smooth puree of fresh cherries.
- Once you have a fine puree add in your lime zest and lime juice and give it another spin around the blender to make sure all the flavors are mixed together well. Press mixture through a small sieve to make sure no larger pieces are left behind. Set aside.
- Now we make our super easy simple syrup! In a small saucepan add in water and granulated sugar, bring to a nice boil over medium-high heat. Once the mixture has started to boil remove it from the heat and let it cool to room temperature.
- Once your simple syrup has chilled to room temperature, add in your pureed cherry and lime mixture and give it all a nice stir so that it is all blended together.
- Once you have your mixture all you need to do is get a nice glass, fill it with ice, add in your cherry lime syrup you made about 4-5 tablespoons worth, top with lemon-lime soda, and garnish with some fresh cherries and a slice of lime.
- Enjoy and relax, you’ve earned it!
Can You Make This With Frozen or Canned Cherries?
Frozen Cherries
If you are using frozen cherries then I would suggest you follow the recipe exactly in terms of making your simple syrup and adding the blended lime cherries since we are still looking for that delicious tangy cherry lime syrup.
Canned Cherries/Maraschino Cherries
If you are using canned cherries/maraschino cherries I would say you could skip using the syrup altogether since it would already have that sweet syrup already done for you! I would add a fresh squeeze of lime to the syrup to get that extra refreshing flavor.
Then at this point, you could follow the rest of the recipe, pour your cherry lime syrup over ice, top with some cherries, add in your lemon-lime soda and a nice slice of lime for garnish.
Could You Use Sparkling Water Instead?
Yes! Another variation to this recipe would be to use sparkling water if you don’t want such a high sugar content. This would also be great when making this into a nice alcoholic beverage, use the sparkling water and then top with your vodka or tequila of choice!
